About Me

I was a woman who thought that after I lost my son, I could never feel joy or meaning ever again.

Sound familiar? Grief can be all-consuming and massively disorienting. Finding words to express this pain seems impossible. As I began to use art to unlock my deeper feelings, I was able to connect with my son and honor his memory in meaningful ways.

Collaging, journaling, and other art-assisted forms of grief work have restored my connection to Kevin and to myself. These practices have helped me identify and express my feelings, allowing me to look at them, sit with them, and ultimately begin to heal.

I'm Brenda — Bereaved Mother, LCSW, PhD, Certified Grief Therapist, and Author.

On my path to reconnecting to myself and my late son Kevin, I found ways to connect to a larger community of grievers. It has informed my passion to destigmatize TBIs, chronic pain, and substance-related deaths.

No one deserves to be held back from living fully through their grief journey because of societal stigma and misunderstanding.
